Looking to increase your pharmacy’s competitive advantage in 2021?
As we start a new year, it’s an opportune time for pharmacy owners to evaluate how they can grow their business and boost profitability. The pharmacy industry is constantly changing, which means that independent pharmacies need to find innovative ways to adapt to new challenges.
Sykes & Company asked RxSafe customers Ashley Seyfarth, owner of Kare Drug, and Reagan Brown, owner of City Drug Pharmacy, to share how they have overcome many challenges facing independent pharmacy today -- while using the RapidPakRx.

Increasing Script Volume
Seyfarth realized early on that pouch packaging was a growing trend in the pharmacy industry. After researching different automation systems on the market, she determined that the RapidPakRx was the best adherence solution for her business.
“We've had a huge jump in patients coming to us, transferring massive prescriptions from our competitors to our pouch packaging,” says Seyfarth.
Since the acquisition of PillPack by Amazon, demand for pouch packaging has been on the rise. Patients are searching for similar solutions locally, so there is no better time for independent pharmacies to enter the market and offer a solution to their community.
“One thing I've learned is to not focus so much on our older population, because you have to remember that many of our young people are taking care of their parents,” adds Seyfarth.
Marketing the pouch packaging to both patients and caregivers is helping independent pharmacies, like Kare Drugs, to reach more patients and grow script volume.
Boosting Profitability With Supplements
Physicians often advise patients to take supplements that complement their medication regimen. For many patients, remembering to take their medications is difficult, and when you add supplements into the mix, it can become even more burdensome for patients.
Brown noticed that many patients were coming into the pharmacy asking for vitamins and supplements when they came in to pick up their regular prescriptions.
“We had a local physician that would send everybody over to the store with this long list of supplements that he wanted the patients to take,” says Brown.
Having many patients already on pouch packaging, Brown realized an opportunity to improve patient adherence while increasing revenue.
“We created a supplement pack that we sent over to the physician, and got his blessing on it,” says Brown.
“Before he had not been a proponent of the pouch packaging too much, but we sent the packaging over to him, and he approved it so he started sending patients to us,” adds Brown.
Expanding Geographic Reach
With a growing interest in adherence pouch packaging, patients are searching for a local pharmacy that offers the convenient service. For some RapidPakRx owners, such as Seyfarth and Brown, reaching new patients outside of their normal radius is a common occurrence.
“We've actually had quite a few people that will drive from the big town closest to us, just for the pouch packaging,” says Seyfarth.
The RapidPakRx makes it easy to fill scripts for patients, even those outside of your normal delivery area. Kare Drug is able to fill the scripts beforehand, and schedule a time for the patient to come in for pick-up.
“Accuracy has been a lot better with the RapidPakRx than our previous machine,” says Brown. The unmatched speed and flexibility of the RapidPakRx makes it easier to add new patients to the pharmacy’s workflow. Pharmacy owners can feel confident that prescriptions will be ready to be delivered or picked up by patients who travel to the pharmacy.
